Mascagni’s opera Cavalleria Rusticana is considered one of the great masterpieces of the repertoire. It was first premiered in 1893 and since, has become one of the most popular operas. Often it is paired with Pagliacci by Leoncavallo in a so-called Cav/Pag double bill.
